Interpersonal communication skills are important to know and use, and allow one to interact with society. Interpersonal skills are concurrent with one’s relationship and professional success, regardless of gender or profession. The knowledge of effective communication skills can develop the sense of being whole as a person, improve educational enterprise, and increase responsibility as a citizen of the world. Interpersonal communications has many aspects, all of which are important to understand. The transactional process, intercultural communication, interpersonal perception, interpersonal perception, and the listening process are among the most significant topics discussed thus far in the course.
Interpersonal communication can be described as a transactional process. Communication is a process and ongoing event, in which the elements are interdependent. For instance, each element of interpersonal communication is connected to other parts as well as the whole. Elements such as the speaker and listener ultimately reverse roles indefinitely in a transactional process. In addition, the process of communication is circular. For example, one person’s message serves as the stimulus for another’s message, which serves as a stimulus for the other person’s message, and so on. One can imagine interpersonal communication as a circular diagram, with the orator and auditor on either side of the endless chart.
Culture represents a set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and plays an immense role in communication. For instance, culture affects the spread of technology. The rapid increase of technology and the internet has made intercultural communication available and simple. Communication has also been used internationally. The economic lives of many country’s citizens depends on the ability to communicate effectively across different cultures. Through technology and politics, Americans have been able to use communication skills to bring cultures together.
